Dermal Filler

Injectable hyaluronic acid treatment to restore volume, refine contours and soften deeper lines

Dermal filler is a hyaluronic acid gel treatment used to restore lost volume, improve facial contours and soften deeper static lines and shadows. When placed carefully and conservatively, it can enhance facial balance, definition and support while maintaining a natural-looking result. It may be used to address concerns such as volume loss, asymmetry, contour changes and age-related hollowing. A consultation helps determine the most suitable areas, product choice and treatment plan for your features and goals.

Consultation to assess suitability, treatment areas and the most appropriate treatment plan for your features

Dermal filler is used to improve concerns linked with volume loss, facial hollowing, deeper static lines and reduced definition. It may be recommended for areas such as the cheeks and midface, lips, chin, jawline, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, temples and tear troughs, and can also be used in selected cases for the nose, hands and décolletage. By restoring structure and support beneath the skin, it can help soften shadows, improve contour and create a fresher, more balanced appearance.

Dermal filler may be suitable if you are concerned by facial volume loss, deeper lines at rest, hollowing, asymmetry or reduced definition in areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin or jawline. It can be a good option for patients who want subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation or carefully judged enhancement without surgery. Results are often best achieved in a measured and proportionate way, and your consultation is important to assess facial anatomy, skin quality, any previous filler and the safest approach for your goals.

Your appointment begins with a consultation to assess your concerns, facial anatomy and treatment plan. The skin is cleansed and dermal filler is then placed into the chosen areas using precise injection techniques. Numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be used to improve comfort, and many fillers also contain lidocaine. Treatment is tailored to the area being addressed and typically takes around 30 to 45 minutes, plus additional time if numbing is needed.

Most patients find dermal filler very tolerable. It is commonly described as a brief pinch, pressure or mild discomfort, although some areas can feel more sensitive than others. Numbing cream may be used beforehand, and many hyaluronic acid fillers contain local anaesthetic to help improve comfort during treatment.

Results are visible immediately, although the treated area will continue to settle as any swelling reduces. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising can occur after treatment and are usually temporary. Some areas, particularly the lips, may swell more noticeably at first, so a little social downtime can be helpful. Your result is usually best assessed once the area has settled fully, often around two weeks after treatment.

Downtime is usually minimal, and many patients return to normal activities quite quickly. After treatment, you should avoid touching or pressing on the area unnecessarily, and it is usually advised to avoid make-up for 12 hours. For the first 24 to 48 hours, it is best to avoid excessive heat, saunas, steam rooms and anything that may increase swelling or irritation. Your practitioner will give specific aftercare advice based on the area treated and your treatment plan.

Dermal filler gives an immediate result, with the final look refining over the days that follow as swelling settles. Longevity varies depending on the product used, the treatment area and your individual metabolism. In general, dermal filler commonly lasts around 9 to 18 months, although more mobile areas such as the lips may wear down sooner and structural areas such as the cheeks or chin may last longer. In some cases, the best outcome is achieved gradually over time with a conservative, staged approach.
