SkinPen

Professional microneedling treatment to improve texture, acne scarring and overall skin quality with minimal downtime.

SkinPen is a professional microneedling treatment designed to stimulate the skin’s natural repair process. By creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, it encourages collagen and elastin production, helping to improve concerns such as acne scarring, uneven texture, enlarged pores and early fine lines. It is often chosen by patients who want a fresher, smoother, more even-looking complexion without heat-based resurfacing or a lengthy recovery period.

Best for
Acne scarring, uneven texture, enlarged pores, dull skin and early fine lines.

Ideal if
You would like to improve skin quality and texture through collagen stimulation, with gradual and natural-looking results.

Treatment areas
Face, neck and décolletage, with some clinics also using microneedling on other body areas depending on the concern being treated.

Skin goals
Smoother texture, clearer-looking skin, softer fine lines and a brighter, more refined complexion.

Next step
Consultation to assess suitability, treatment areas and whether a single treatment or a course would be most appropriate for your skin goals.

SkinPen is used for concerns relating to skin texture and surface quality. It may help improve the appearance of acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, dull or tired-looking skin and early fine lines. It is best thought of as a collagen-induction treatment for skin quality rather than a treatment for facial volume loss or significant skin laxity.

SkinPen may be suitable if you want a non-surgical treatment that supports natural skin renewal and gradual improvement in texture and tone. Manufacturer information describes it as appropriate for all skin tones and types, and clinics often position it as a versatile, year-round treatment with relatively little downtime. A consultation is still important to assess your skin, concerns and whether microneedling is the right option for you.

Your appointment begins with a consultation and skin assessment. The skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is usually applied beforehand to improve comfort. The SkinPen device is then passed over the treatment area in a controlled pattern to create precise microchannels in the skin. The treatment takes 60 minutes.

Most patients find SkinPen very tolerable. It is commonly described as causing light pressure, a mild buzzing sensation or minimal discomfort, particularly when numbing cream has been used beforehand.

After treatment, the skin may look pink to red and feel warm or tight, rather like mild sunburn. Mild swelling can occur, and some patients may notice slight dryness or light peeling as the skin settles. These effects are usually temporary and commonly improve within 24 to 48 hours.

Downtime is usually minimal, which is one of the reasons microneedling is often easy to fit into everyday life. Most patients are able to return to normal activities quite quickly, although redness similar to mild sunburn is common for the first 24 to 48 hours. Your practitioner will advise you on aftercare based on your skin and treatment plan.

Results develop gradually as new collagen forms. Some patients notice an early improvement in brightness within a few days, with fuller textural improvement becoming more visible over the following weeks. A course of treatments is often recommended for best results: typically 3 sessions spaced several weeks apart. Results can be long-lasting, in some cases up to a year or more with appropriate skincare and maintenance.
