Lip Filler

Hyaluronic acid lip enhancement to refine shape, restore fullness and create soft, balanced definition

Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid injectable treatment used to enhance shape, improve definition and restore or add fullness to the lips. When carried out conservatively, it can refine lip contour, support symmetry and smooth fine lines around the mouth while maintaining a natural-looking result. Treatment can be tailored for subtle hydration and definition or for a fuller result, depending on your features and goals. A consultation helps determine the most suitable approach for your lip shape, facial balance and desired outcome.

Best for
Lip volume loss, reduced definition, asymmetry and fine lines around the mouth

Ideal if
You would like fuller, more defined lips while keeping the result balanced and in proportion with your features

Treatment areas
Lip body, vermillion border, cupid’s bow and perioral lines

Skin goals
Better lip shape, improved definition, restored fullness and a smoother lip area

Next step
Consultation to assess suitability, lip anatomy and the most appropriate treatment plan for your goals

Lip filler is used to improve concerns such as naturally thin lips, age-related volume loss, reduced border definition, asymmetry and lines around the mouth. It can help define the cupid’s bow and vermillion border, enhance lip shape and create a softer, more hydrated appearance. In appropriate patients, it may also improve the look of fine vertical lip lines by restoring support in the area.

Lip filler may be suitable if you would like to enhance lip shape, improve symmetry or restore lost fullness in a subtle and controlled way. It is often chosen by patients who want more definition or hydration without an overfilled look. Suitability should always be assessed in person, taking into account your anatomy, treatment goals and any relevant medical considerations or contraindications.

Your appointment begins with a consultation to discuss your goals, assess lip shape and plan the treatment carefully. The lip area is then cleansed and numbing cream or local anaesthetic may be used to improve comfort. The filler is placed into selected areas of the lips using precise injection techniques to build shape, balance and volume. Treatment is usually completed within around 30 to 45 minutes, although the full appointment take a little longer to allow time for consultation and numbing.

Most patients find lip filler very tolerable, although the lips can be more sensitive than some other treatment areas. It is often described as a brief stinging, pinching or pressure sensation. Numbing cream is commonly used beforehand, and many hyaluronic acid fillers also contain anaesthetic to help improve comfort during treatment.

Results are visible immediately, but the lips will usually look more swollen at first and continue to settle over the days that follow. Mild swelling, tenderness, redness and bruising are common short-term effects after treatment. The final result is usually easier to assess once the lips have settled properly, which often takes around one to two weeks.

Downtime is usually minimal, although some swelling or bruising is common in the first few days. After treatment, it is sensible to avoid pressing or massaging the lips, and to avoid make-up or lip products for around 12 hours. For the first 24 to 48 hours, it is also best to avoid alcohol, strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, very hot temperatures and unnecessary pressure on the lips while the area settles.

Lip filler gives an immediate improvement in shape and volume, but the refined result becomes clearer once swelling has resolved over approximately one to two weeks. Longevity varies depending on the product used, the amount placed and individual metabolism. A reasonable expectation is that results often last around 6 to 12 months, although some patients may find their treatment lasts longer.
